Camera and your clips
Tally uses your camera only while the record screen is open and a session is running. It keeps a small number of still frames from the session on your device and turns them into a short timelapse video. Recording pauses when you leave the app.
Frames and exported videos are stored on your phone (exports go to Movies/Tally in your gallery). Raw frames are never uploaded. If you are signed in, a 540p copy of each saved timelapse is uploaded to a private folder that only your account can read, so you can download it again on a new phone; friends cannot see or download it. Without an account nothing is uploaded, and otherwise a video leaves your phone only when you share it to another app yourself.
Data on your device and Android backup
Your sessions (start and end time, focus time, tag), streaks, goals and settings are stored in the app's private storage. Android Auto Backup may copy this history, your settings and session thumbnails to your Google account so they come back after a reinstall; raw frames are excluded. This backup is handled by Google under your Google account settings, and we cannot access it.
Optional account
You can sign in with Google or with a one-time code sent to your email. We store your email address (used only to sign you in), a username you choose, a display name and, if you sign in with Google, your profile photo URL.
When signed in, each saved session's time, tag, a small thumbnail image (one still from the session) and a private low-resolution copy of its timelapse are stored on our servers so you can restore your history and, if you choose, show the session (not the video) to friends. You can mark a session private. Accounts are hosted with Supabase on our behalf.
Friends and groups
Friends are mutual: someone can see your posted sessions only after you both accept. Friends can see your username, display name, photo, posted sessions, kudos and comments, whether you are recording right now, and your weekly total on the friends leaderboard. They can send you a nudge, which arrives as a notification at most once a day per friend.
You can create or join groups with an invite link. Members of a group you are in see the same things friends see, plus the group's weekly chart and leaderboard. You can leave a group at any time.
You can report a session, comment or person, and block anyone. A block hides you from each other everywhere in Tally. Reports are reviewed by us and may lead to content or accounts being removed.
Notifications
Tally can remind you to record and warn you before a streak breaks; these are scheduled on your device. If you are signed in, nudges from friends are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging, which uses a device token linked to your account. You can turn notifications off in the app or in Android settings.
Purchases
Tally Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Google Play. We never see your payment details. The app receives a purchase confirmation (product and order identifier) to unlock Pro and restore it after a reinstall.
Do Not Disturb
If you turn on “Silence notifications”, Tally asks Android for Do Not Disturb access so it can switch Do Not Disturb on while you record and restore your previous setting when you stop. It does not read your notifications.
How long data is kept and deleting it
Data on your phone stays until you delete sessions, clear the app's data or uninstall. Account data stays until you delete your account. Deleting your account (in Settings, or at slayerblade.in/tally/delete-account) removes your profile, synced sessions, thumbnails, timelapse backups, group memberships, friendships, kudos, comments and nudges from our servers within 30 days. Clips already saved to your gallery or shared to other apps are not affected.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA/UK under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA) you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export or object to processing of your data. Contact us to exercise them. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. Data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
Children
Tally is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, mention it in the app's update notes.
